Help Camila Overcome Brain Cancer

The Backstory
My name is Alan Evangelos Chaddon and on January 27th, 2017, I married Camila Quizini, the woman of my dreams. We lived a simple, but good life. In February of this year Camila started to feel dizzy and have mild migraines. Her symptoms progressed and we started to visit doctors for testing including an MRI a round of tests. Eventually we were told that Camila had a mass in her brain. It was later confirmed that she indeed had an astrocytoma and there was no cure. She was given various drugs and we were sent home on June 2nd. On June 21st Camila had emergency 7- hour brain surgery to remove her brain tumor. I was communicating with my wife's family in Brazil via Camila's friends since I don't speak Portuguese to keep them posted of the situation. The next morning the surgeon told us he successfully removed 90% of the tumor. Initially the tumor appear to be benign and after a few days at the hospital we returned home with medications. On July 7th Camila started to experience significant migraines again and a full body rash breakout. Later that day she started to leak brain fluid from her incision. A rush trip to the hospital and round of MRIs and exams showed she had meningitis and the regrowth of her tumor at 3 times its size post surgery! Camilla was taken in for another 7-hour operation to remove the new growth, infected bone, and was admitted to the hospital for 2 weeks for treatment. On August 21st Camilla was officially diagnosed with Diffuse Midline Glioma WHO Grade IV with a special mutation H3F3A. There is a very poor prognosis of survival for this diagnosis.

Camila’s Prognosis and Our Hopes

We were told that she would need chemotherapy and radiation immediately and if that failed we could enroll into a specialty clinical trial to extend her life by months and/or increase her quality.  Our ultimate goal, God Willing, is to overcome cancer all together. We are hoping to participate in a clinical trial at Stanford University Medical, which uses CAR T therapy. This model uses CAR T therapy and was successfully used on her tumor type by selecting GD2 receptors and eliminating the tumor. We have made initial contact with Stanford and are hoping to be enrolled in this trial. In the event we are not successfully enrolled here, we are researching other clinical trials here and overseas (Mexico, India). The trials have specific requirements and potentially can be costly to enroll. This treatment could be the reason my wife lives!

What Are the Costs and How Your Money Will be Spent?

Although I am currently employed full-time and have health insurance, our medical bills already exceed a total $14,000 out of pocket (approximately 27% of my yearly salary). I quickly maxed out my credit cards and am anticipating over $100,000 in additional out-of-pocket medical expenses to come.

Anticipated Expenses:

·         Oral Medications (2 months)

·         Lodging: Clinical Trial (2 months)

·         Travel/Gas

·         Unforseen Medical Expenses

All funds are going directly to me, Alan Evangelos Chaddon, who is married to Camila and am overseeing her medical needs and health care expenses.

Why Your Support Means So Much?

Please help us fight Camila's cancer! My wife is 36 years old and we have our whole lives ahead of us. Since her second surgery she has been bedridden most of the time and it is hard to see such an energetic person who I love change so dramatically in the past few months. Camila has gone from pulling an all-nighters with me to not being able to stand for more than 15 minutes at a time without getting extremely tired and it’s emotionally draining for both of us. She currently spends her time in the dark lying in bed most of the day. I want my wife to be herself again. When I see her, I see hope and courage. She wants to live and she wants to battle through this. Please support us in our battle against cancer.
