Caitlin Denton - Support an Amazing Woman

Donation protected
Early Monday morning two weeks ago, a beautiful 26-year-old friend and colleague was seriously injured in a horrific assault. Cait and her roommates were sleeping when a young man broke into their house. After waking to some strange noises, Cait did what she does best and stood up for herself and the safety of her other roommates. In the following few moments, Cait sustained very serious injuries. Currently, Cait has been in the ICU since that life-changing Monday. She is making some unbelievable progress, but the road to full recovery will be a long and challenging one, both physically and emotionally. We need your help to support such an amazing woman.

For those of you who know Cait, little needs to be said about her magnetic personality, wide smile and enormous heart. When Cait enters a room, everyone notices (and not just because of her big hair!). Her personality shines through in everything she does, from the way she joyfully bounces around to her contagious laughter, Cait lights up a room instantly.

More important than the way she commands a room is her long-lasting passion for putting others before herself. Cait is currently getting her masters in Sustainable International Development and Women and Gender Studies. She is unwavering in her desire to uplift those who have been marginalized.

Before arriving at Brandeis University, Cait spent two years volunteering for Peace Corps Thailand. Cait worked closely with community partners and student leaders on a wide range of community youth development projects. She trained educators and community volunteers in sexual reproductive health curriculum and collaborated with local schools, health clinics, and government offices to facilitate youth events promoting gender equity and sexual reproductive health. She fought to raise awareness and open conversation about gender-based violence and substance abuse, building platforms for youth to engage in insightful, critical discussion around taboo issues directly impacting their lives and opportunities. She served as a columnist for the PC Thailand Gender and Diversity Committee, publishing multiple articles and educational resources for her fellow volunteers.

Outside of work, Cait fell in love with Bo Kluea Tai Village and was deeply integrated within the community. An avid biker and runner, she spent her free time exploring the hills and rice paddies, stopping to get to know every coffee shop owner along the way.

After spending two years working as a Peace Corps volunteer, Cait knew that the best way to maximize her impact was to pursue her master's degree at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management.

Unfortunately, this amazing woman was set back a few weeks ago, when someone broke into her house.

Originally we put this page together to raise money to help Cait with her medical bills and lost wages. The response has truly been amazing. Support poured in, and within 24 hours, and our goal of $10,000 was met. Now we’re over $16,000!

Without any experience in this area, none of us knew what the actual costs of recovery might be. Unfortunately, after speaking with the doctors, nurses, physical therapists, counselors, and many many others, we realized our goal will only cover a fraction of Cait’s recovery costs. We’ve spoken to some people who have dealt with these types of tragedies before. They have advised us on the costs and the long-term support that incidents like this require. After long discussions and some deep research, we estimate that her total need will be around $50,000.

Funds raised will be turned over to the Cait to help with immediate medical bills and living costs while she is far from home and to support Cait's extended recovery when she is finally released from the hospital.

Given Cait’s commitment to helping others, this $50,000 will do so much more than just help one person - it is a step towards repairing the world.

Whether you contribute financially or not, please pray and send positive thoughts to Cait and her family at this time of great distress. And if you can, please:

1)      Give whatever you can. Any donation can make a difference.

2)      Share on social media.

3)      Email this page to your family and friends.

The world needs people like Cait now more than ever. Let’s get her back to helping others.
