I met Bridget Jones 17 years ago, when I was a new college grad just moved to Colorado. She and her husband Darrell welcomed me into their lives with open arms, bringing me into their circle of friends and family without hesitation. She has supported me through every major life event, even hosting my Denver wedding reception, co-hosting baby showers and loving my 3 children like her own. She is one of the most patient, generous, friendly, fun-loving, hardworking, optimistic women I've ever known. She nurtures and supports those around her, always ready to offer a listening ear, wise advice or an extra hand.
Bridget Jones was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer in February 2016 and has been fighting for her right to live ever since. She's survived three major surgeries, multiple rounds of chemo and cancer-fighting drugs, and lives with ongoing side effects including pain, weakness and difficulty absorbing nutrition. She does all of this while continuing to be a wife, mother to 3 teenage children, and dedicated educator in Golden, CO.
Bridget was recently hospitalized because of severe pain and malnutrition. Surgeons placed a feeding tube in her stomach and she will also receive IV nutrition to build her strength while she pursues alternative therapies to help heal her gut, which must be paid for out-of-pocket. She remains optimistic and continues to face each new challenge head on, knowing that she must continue to battle cancer for her family and community. She has created a motto and logo (seen below) to give voice to her mission -- "Be Alive, Believe!"
