11-year-old Daniel Giffin is a fun-loving outdoor enthusiast from Colorado Springs. Last August he was the youngest unicyclist to ride to the top of Pikes Peak. In January he was diagnosed with a highly aggressive brain cancer, Grade 3 anaplastic ependymoma. He is set to undergo his 2nd brain surgery to remove 2 more brain tumors (pea size) that have grown since his original surgery over Christmas break where surgeons removed a tumor the size of half an adult fist. Following surgery Daniel will undergo daily radiation treatments for 6 weeks and up to a lifetime of monitoring for cancer.

Before discovering the tumor, Daniel had been having nausea, headaches and foot numbness on and off for about a month and a half. He had visited the ER around Thanksgiving, but more minor possible causes we're being ruled out first. Then while on a trip to Disneyland the week before Christmas, his left foot went palsy-like and he began stumbling and was unable to flex his foot. The family called his doctor and decided to go the ER.

Daniel has great faith in God and comforts everyone saying "God is in control." He says he isn't worried (except about having a catheter again) he's just bummed he's not going to be able to do PE and sports like playing flag football and ultimate frisbee this spring.

Some people say Daniel should be Mayor because he is so friendly and well spoken and isn't afraid to speak up even at public meetings about caring for his community's bike trails. He says why not aim for President. We believe Daniel will come through this ordeal and he can be cured of this cancer. but help is needed to cover the costs associated with his care.

If you decide to donate to Daniel through Go Fund Me, the funds will  go to Daniel and to help with Daniel's ongoing care. We most appreciate prayers. Gas cards (Costco) and food cards help too. Thank you for taking the time to check out Daniel's story.

36715092_1549003873747482_r.jpegThe original brain tumor was the size of half of an adult fist. Daniel immediately felt better after it was removed. It turned out it was caused by a high grade anaplastic epedemoma cancer. It took a lot of testing by top hospitals, Barrows and St. Judes to determine pathology and a lot of time and before he could undergo radiation to ensure it wouldn't come back, two new pea-sized tumors appeared. He goes into surgery on Monday for a 2nd brain surgery.

Thank you all for the amazing support and for your generosity. Daniel has just completed 3 days of his 31 days of radiation treatments in Denver over 6 weeks. He’s handling it all so well, no nausea or headaches just some hair loss on his incision site. We’re praying there is no long term cognitive and other effects and that his cancer can be cured! He continues to be a bright smiling light through all of this. He’s set up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to be granted a wish and is hoping for a Disney Cruise to the Bahamas. He also got a behind-the-scenes tour at the zoo to feed an African elephant and get his own personal painting and feed a black rhino and pet wallabies. - Mom, Torie
