I'm reaching out to you because my mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer 6 years ago. She had a full hysterectomy, after which she recovered well. Since then she has been in good health.
Unfortunately in May this year she was diagnosed with peritoneal carcinomatosis. It is a cancer that is growing in the lining of the abdomen. The bigger tumors have already been removed through surgery, but she needs more treatments to get the rest of the cancer cells removed.
She has been offered a regular treatment of chemotherapy but since the lining in the abdomen has little blood flow and the cancer is low grade, it is very hard to treat. Normal chemotherapy for this type of cancer has a very very low success rate and would mostly destroy the rest of her body, because the chemicals would circulate the most in places where it isn't needed. On top of this, her white blood count is low, which complicates a lengthy chemotherapy process even more.
After doing a lot of research we found a hospital in Germany that offers Intraperitoneal Hyperthermic Perfusion treatment. In this, heated chemotherapy fluid is injected directly into the stomach to destroy all the cancer cells and keep the rest of the body unaffected.
The treatment only takes about 2 weeks.
The full price for the treatment comes to about 15000 Euros, which equals around 23000 Canadian Dollars.
She just got an appointment to start her treatment the beginning of September and we'll do anything in the meantime to get the money together.
