Help Bill Towle’s Family With In-Home Health Care

Bill Towle is our father, brother and a proud grandfather of six (with one on the way!). In July 2016, Bill was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. ALS is a cruel and devastating disease with no cure and no effective treatment. The disease robs its victims of the ability to walk, dress themselves, use the toilet, talk, swallow and ultimately breathe. The average lifespan from diagnosis is 2 - 5 years.

Julie, Bill’s loving and utterly devoted wife of 39 years, has risen in a magnificent way to the enormous challenge of making Bill’s remaining life as safe and comfortable as possible.  Julie has been forced to take a leave of absence from her job in order to provide round-the-clock help Bill requires including:
- getting Bill in and out of bed
- getting Bill into and out of his reclining chair
- helping to bathe Bill - this has become very difficult for Julie since Bill doesn’t have the strength to use the shower in his wheelchair
- helping him dress and undress
- helping him eat
- helping him with his ventilation machine
- cleaning and flushing Bill's feeding tube
- using a lift to help Bill use the toilet
- getting Bill and his wheelchair in and out of the car to take him to his medical appointments including the Mayo Clinic in Rochester

Bill's family, including his four children, two sons-in-law and daughter-in-law, have all come together to help Bill and Julie in every way they can including designing and building a wheelchair ramp in the garage so Julie can take Bill to his medical appointments.  His six young grandchildren visit Bill and Julie almost every day unless one of them is sick with the flu or a cold which poses a big risk to Bill because of his respiratory weakness.  They are the love and light of Bill’s life!

To sum it up, Bill is adored by the family he adores!

Bill and Julie have faced extraordinary medical and incidental expenses as a result of his ALS diagnosis.  The rapid progression of Bill’s disease, including his increasing paralysis and incontinence, have made the daily home care he needs overwhelming for Julie. She simply cannot manage these tasks safely all by herself any longer without risking injury to herself. The hourly cost of in-home medical aides is not covered by Medicare and Bill’s supplemental insurance.

Bill is not the kind of person who is comfortable asking for support, but now he needs our help!  We are calling on the generosity of our family, friends, neighbors and strangers to help with the cost of hiring in-home medical aides for Bill and Julie.

How You Can Help Today!

We appreciate everyone's love, support and especially prayers during this very difficult time. If you’re able to donate we would be very grateful! The donations will go towards in-Home health care for Bill.

Please share/post to help spread the word on how to help Bill fight ALS!

Thank You ❤️
