My independence will be reinstated once my specialized equipment is intact. I only recently lost all of my mobility ... and now I have so many barriers to even going to my doctor’s appointments. Can you imagine how complex transporting a breathing & feeling human mannequin/statue is in a sedan? Even in a regular van, my brother took the seats and out and laid me in the floor (photo above) I desperately need a specialized wheelchair and a van with a wheelchair lift/ ramp. Can you please help? And then... we’ll do lunch
I have battled Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP) since the age of three . I was misdiagnosed on my third birthday, resulting in the amputation of my right arm/shoulder. FOP is the rarest, most disabling genetic condition known to medicine. It causes muscles, tendons, and ligaments to turn to bone. Bridges of extra bone develop across joints, progressively restricting movement and forming a second skeleton that imprisons the body in bone. Today there are about 900+ known FOP patients worldwide and I'm the only amputee because of a catastroph misdiagnosis. I live with my parents who are in their mid-70s ... me being a statue isn’t easy on them. I have been mostly housebound for months.
August 2018 I lost complete walking ability. It’s very difficult and painful trying to transfer from wheelchair to car and back- so to save heartache, I’ve been homebound. Those that know me know I was NEVER a homebody. It’s been hard on my mother lifting the wheelchair in/out of the car.
Getting an accessible wheelchair van with these funds raised will give me some much needed independence that I lost!
