AnnMarie Dingfelder was diagnosed with stage 3 anal cancer on Oct. 27, 2016. She went through chemotherapy and radiation at Gundersen in La Crosse. After completing her treatments she went for a follow up on May 11, 2017 where they do a scan to see if treatment worked. The doctors told her it worked, and they didn’t see any cancer left.
On August 4th, she had a follow up colonoscopy to make sure all areas were still cancer free. At that appointment the doctors realized that there was still an area of concern, and they told her she still had a 1cm cancerous lesion. They told her she still had left over chemo in her body and that should take care of it. A follow up appointment was set up for August 31st to see if the chemo continued to work. Unfortunately, AnnMarie received some bad news, the cancer did not go away but instead is growing. They scheduled a CT scan to see if the cancer had spread anywhere else. On September 6th AnnMarie went for the CT scan, and received the results of the scan on September 8th, the CT showed a spot on her liver. On September 13th AnnMarie went to have a biopsy done on her liver. September 19th the results were in for her liver, and the results were normal, the spot on her liver is not cancer. On September 20th AnnMarie had an appointment with her surgeon to see what the next step will be. The doctors informed her surgery would be the best option for her. On September 28th 2017 she will have an 8 hour surgery where they are going to be removing part of her colon and giving her a colostomy. Recovery consists of staying in the hospital for 5-7 days depending on how well she recovers.
With AnnMarie being out of work, and constantly having doctor appointments the hospital bills are adding up fast, and she has many more appointments to look forward to along with a hospital stay after surgery. AnnMarie is a fighter, but is starting to feel the burden of her medical bills, so we are asking for help to ease the stress of bills so she can continue to fight this caner.
