Help Amber Study Abroad in Spain

Donation protected
Hello everyone! If you've made your way here, it must be because you are very dear to me, or because are one who supports the pursuit of education through mutual aid!

Welcome. My name is Amber, and I am writing today asking for assistance in funding a study abroad excursion I have been accepted to in Spain during the Summer of 2019 through Portland Community College. To bring a close to my incredibly transformative time studying at PCC, I hope to earn the last of my credits (before I transfer to Portland State in the fall) while studying the films of director Pedro Almodovar by means of immersion in Spanish culture, participating in a course that will bring me to Madrid, Ciudad Real, and Barcelona.

When I began studying at PCC in the fall of 2016, I did not realize how committed to, and moreover how at home I felt within the world of academia. At this half way point of  completing my undergraduate degree, I aspire to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Portland State University, and hope to proceed to earn a Master of Fine Art's in Creative Writing as well. Since immersing myself into this world, I have had the joy of seeing pieces of my work published thrice over, igniting a confidence and passion in what I know will be a lifelong journey and commitment to writing.  Traveling has always been one of my greatest sources of inspiration, and since the start of my educational journey, I have been both in school and employed full time simultaneously and unable to do much wandering, abroad or domestically. An opportunity to study abroad would prove to be an invaluable experience for my personal and educational growth.

As it stands, I have been an honor roll student for the majority of my time at PCC, and a member of the Presidents list for the past six terms.  I have participated in earning the institution's Focus Award in Creative Writing, committing to an extensive study in developing my craft as a writer by taking all courses in their introductory and advanced iterations.

I have applied for fourteen (and counting) scholarships to fund this trip, and although I am confident that at least some will be awarded, the fees and deposit for commitment to participating are due months before those scholarship awards are decided upon. I will be adjusting my fundraising goal amount based on any substantial awards I earn, but for now I am shooting for the total cost of the program and fees, tuition for credit hours to be earned, plus the cost of a round trip flight, which is not covered in the program fees.

You can read a description of the program here!

The fee for the trip is $3,335
The tuition is approximately $498
A conservative estimate for airfare is $1200 round trip.

This brings the total I am asking for here to $5,000. This amount does not include my monthly living expenses of around $1200, or make up for the time I would be taking off from work to participate in the course without earning any income. Thus, I am counting on both earning scholarships and your gracious donations to make participating in this course a possibility.

I thank you all so kindly for reading about my fundraiser, and please know that any donation you can contribute or the sharing of this platform is wholeheartedly appreciated and makes such a difference in helping my attain my goals.

xoxo
