Spawn On Me Growth Campaign

For the past 5+ years, we over at Spawn On Me have been at the forefront of the conversation around diversity in videogames. We pride ourselves on surfacing smart and nuanced conversations for the industry while spotlighting amazing people of color in games.
Besides making great content, one of the other keystone beliefs of our show is to find ways to raise money for issues and organizations tackling topics that affect our communities but don't get exposure by most streamers, companies and content creators.
To help combat that, we started #Spawn4Good. Our social justice focused fundraising program. To date, we've raised almost $10,000 to support organizations tackling issues like abortion, police brutality, foster care, coding courses for underserved communities and most recently voter disenfranchisement. We feel like it is our duty to not just talk about these problems, but use our platform to make a difference.
This year has been fairly difficult in terms of funding our show. Patreon has implemented many changes that have caused a huge drop in monetary support over the past year. That support is the lifeblood and biggest determining factor on what events we can attend which constrains what we can cover and our potential growth.
One of the biggest factors in Spawn On Me doing so well over the years has literally been us being in the room where many people of color have not and advocating for our communities. Getting our foot in the door has helped us open it for others and we will continue to do so whenever we can. We know that media from people of color continues to shed light not only on issues we care about, but that prism also brings different levels and angles to stories that often get missed. Communities of color continue to break barriers with our genius, but many times no funding goes to that brilliance. We continue to understand the worth of what we bring to the industry and hope that in the future that will help sustain this project financially.
Looking forward, we have set our goal with the hopes that it will fuel our show for the entire 2019 -2020 conference cycle. This year we plan on having a presence at E3, TwitchCon, Evo & Pax West.
We hope for the first time in our 5+ years to have members of our team at conferences together. We had our best year last year with 20+ pieces of content across all our platforms at E3. We want to do more this year at the shows we go to and will absolutely need your help to make it happen. We want to hire PoC folks to work with us on projects, help us cover conferences or support folks doing content creation that funnels back into our efforts as well.
I want to personally thank you all for ALL the support you've given us over the years. We hear all the time from listeners & industry veterans alike how much our show means to the space. We hope that you'll not only donate to our effort but that you'll continue to share the media we've created. We believe that our story and ones we surface is one that can help push not only our medium forward but the industry as a whole.
