Hector's Education

Hi! My name is Hector Castellano. I am 18 years old and I currently live in the city of Dallas. My family and I came to the United States almost three years ago. Since our arrival, my family had to begin a new life in a new land that we didn't know. My mom and dad lost their old job, making it impossible for us to afford a college education. The money that we have is spent in our main necessities, and because of this, no savings for my college exist. A scholarship will be the only way I could afford to go to college.
I am the main guitar player in my church. I’ve seen lives being changed and families restored since I started, and by the glory of God, it keeps going.

It’s been almost three years since I came to the United States and from the first day, I have not stopped working. Within three years I became the concertmaster of my orchestra, a position I proudly hold that came from restless practice and effort. I became a member of the highly now Young Strings from Dallas, studying under the wings of Sho-Mei Pelletier, a Dallas Symphony violinist. I have even been to two national competitions, representing the North Texas District for the Fine Arts competition of the Assemblies of God, participating in the Christian and Worship Band division, and Spanish Solo Division. In my school, I started a mentorship organization called Hillcrest Newcomers Union, a program dedicated to the mentorship of immigrant students that are new to the country. I created it this program so these kids won’t have to face all the obstacles that I had to face. I wanted to show them that there’s still hope, even in a new country that you don’t know anything about, and that despite the cultural differences, success is still attainable.

My dream is to become a lawyer so one day I can be a tool for blessings in the United States. I want to become someone who you can trust on, someone that kids can see as an example. To prove that immigrants and Latinos have the power and skill to be more than just minimum wage workers, that we can be more than that. Please, I beg you to believe in my potential. I hope that God blesses you in every possible way. Thank you for Believing in my dream. God Bless You.
