Heart Warrior Lydia Mix

On Fathers day (June 17, 2018) we were blessed with a baby girl. Lydia Jean Mix. She was 7 lbs and 19 in. long. 36 hours passed without any issues. We were under the impression that she was healthy. We were so thrilled to have completed our family. She is our second child, our first child is 2 years old and his name is Tate.

My husband, Josh, was holding both our son and daughter when Lydia went into shock in his arms. I was unaware of the situation other than I heard gurgling noises coming from her.  Josh quickly got the attention of the nurses who took her out of the room. Josh took Tate down to the parking lot and called me. He explained that he had seen them hooking her up to Oxygen. Concerned I called the nurse and asked them what was going on. They could not tell me. I had to wait for the doctors to come and talk to me. The doctors told me that she had went into shock and they needed to transfer her to Helen Devos Childrens Hospital via the baby ambulance. The ambulance would be at the hospital in an hour.

Crying I called Josh to let him know the situation. He had taken Tate home. Josh dropped Tate off to family and rushed back to the hospital. They explained to both of us that she was in serious condition and to give her a kiss good bye just in case. Josh went with the ambulance while I stayed at the hospital because I had a c section and was not healed enough to leave.

just before midnight on June 18th they had arrived at Helen Devos Childrens Hospital where Lydia was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). HLHS means that she was born with half a heart. Her left side of her heart is underdeveloped. She has to receive a minimum of 3 surgeries.  The 3 surgeries are called Norwood, Glenn, and the Fontan. When she arrived at HDCH she was in critical condition

She had her first surgery, the Norwood, on June 26, 2018.  Things started to look up after her first surgery until July 2 when she went into cardiac shock and was put unto a life support (ECMO). We were eating breakfast and getting ready to go up and see her when we got the call. It was the longest hour drive. It was so scary seeing our baby like that. We felt completely helpless as she laid there hooked up to all these machines. By Gods grace and and the knowledge of the doctors and nurses she was only on life support for 4 days.

She is still in ICU. She came off the ventilator for a couple days but was put right back on it. She continues to fight every day. She is now 10 weeks old and will remain at the hospital until her next surgery which will be in the next couple months.

During all this we have been off of work unpaid for this situation. We have both recently returned to work but bills have been piling up. We have had a vehicle break down, air conditioning/ furnace go out in our home, and home insurance demanding tree limbs be removed within 60 days. All of this cost us money we did not have. Plus we drive back and forth to the hospital in order to give our son a semi normal life. The trip to the hospital is 80 miles round trip. We are struggling to stay afloat.

We greatly appreciate any help that can be provided. Thank you for all your prayers and continued support.
