Healing the Wounds of Turtle Island, Healing Ceremony
July 14-17th, 2017, Nibezun, Passdumkeag, Maine

Background
Prophecy of the Eastern Gate

Our ancestors tell us that when the people begin to rise up together for the healing of the land they will need to journey back to the place of first contact, the place where first blood was spilled and our history of violence first began. There, the people must come together in ceremony to open the Eastern Door, and invite the force of creation to renew the agreement between the people and creation. The Eastern Door is the gateway to creation, when it is reopened, the process of healing will begin. According to the prophecy the people will come together to heal the common wound that we carry, to heal the Earth, and to heal the  fractures in the energy field that surrounds the Earth.

The Wabanaki, the people of the first light, are the keepers of the Eastern Door with the Haudenosaunee. We are the first peoples to greet Kihsus, the Sun, each morning, and Nipawset, the Moon, each evening. We were the first peoples to greet the newcomers when they came to this land. And, we were the first to suffer the wounds from our shared history. Once again, we are opening our lands to those from all corners of the world, with good hearts and good minds,  so that together we may begin anew and heal the wounds of Turtle Island, and set a new path forward for all life.

This ceremony will bring people together from all corners of the world, to acknowledge the common wound that we carry from our shared history of violence. No matter where we come from, we all carry the wounds of historical trauma within us. Whether we were the victims, the perpetrators, or the witness to that violence, that wound is imprinted on our spirits. Now, the time has come for us to acknowledge that wound, together, so that we can heal it and begin working in a unified way to heal Mother Earth.

Structure of Ceremony
The first day will be for healing the wounds carried within the hearts and minds of the people. The second day will be for healing the wounds of Mother Earth. And, the third day will be for healing the energetic and spiritual imprint of that wound that lays over the Earth. On the last day we will have a closing ceremony that will end at noon.

The ceremonies will be conducted by spiritual elders from Indigenous communities around the world, and supported by spiritual leaders from other traditions. We will be gathering in Penawahpskek Wabanaki Territory on healing ground, along the Penawahpskek (Penobscot) River, at Nibezun in Passadumkeag, Maine. We hope you will all join us and carry these healing energies back to your own homelands.

Purpose of this Fundraising effort
The funds raised from this GoFundMe page will be used to cover the costs of travel for the spiritual elders who will be coming to the ceremony. They are traveling from across the Americas and from as far away as New Zealand. We will also use these funds to help prepare the site for the gathering, and to purchase food and supplies for the communal feasts that are part of the ceremony.

We are asking that you please support the work that we are doing  to bring this healing ceremony to the people, by making a donation today. A donation in any amount will help. You can also help by sharing this page with the people on your contact list and asking them personally to make a donation.

We look forward to coming together with you in July, and beginning this new journey in unity and with common intent for the healing of all life.

Clearly, we are not counting on this page for all of our fund raising needs. We are also engaged in other fundraising events.  However, we are counting on this page to make a BIG contribution to our success. So, please keep donating and keep sharing this with a personal message to all of your contacts, asking them to help as well.

The money that we receive from this page is being distributed through the Land Peace Foundation and Spiret Foundation to directly cover the costs outlined above. Thus far, we have received less than half of what's been raised from GoFundMe.  The money we have received has been used to pay for large event tents for the site, food for volunteers that are setting up the site, supplies for the two houses where the elders will be staying and miscellaneous tools and supplies needed to do the work on site. The additional funds  will be used to complete site set-up, provide food for the gathering, and help pay the remaining travel costs for the elders that are coming to hold the ceremonies.

The Two Organizations hosting the gathering are Nibezun and the Land Peace Foundation, we are also getting sponsorship from the Spiret Foundation and Gedakina. Below are links to all of those organizations. You can also make a tax deductible donation through the Spiret Foundation by going to their website, clicking on the How to Help tab and choosing "Land Peace Foundation." Checks can also be made out to the Spiret Foundation and mailed to: Sherri Mitchell at P.O. Box 2102, Bangor, Maine 04402.
