Healing Jane

Our beautiful friend Jane is battling cancer and she needs our help. Anyone who has ever met Jane knows she’s a warm, inclusive, cheeky and vibrant friend. Jane’s a brilliant community member, a talented landscape architect, a loving mother of two gorgeous girls, Frida and Matilda and dedicated partner to Simon. You might have met Jane campaigning for the Byron community or volunteering her time to make positive change - she's that rare gem in a community who brings all types of people together.

Jane’s cancer story starts in March, 2018 when she discovered a small lump in her neck.  Scans to investigate the lump revealed secondary cells in her liver, lung, brain lymph and other nodes.  A biopsy of the lump revealed the primary was bowel cancer - they had found a tumour in her colon.

Following the diagnosis Jane began her first round of chemotherapy treatment.
While in chemo, the cells in Jane's brain were treated with a  Gamma Knife located in Brisbane.  The treatment was successful in the removal of these cells and her brain cells are being monitored every third month.

Several weeks after the Gamma Knife treatment Jane had a bowel obstruction which resulted in surgery and the removal of the tumour and installation of a stoma and colostomy bag.

Chemotherapy was put on hold for five weeks while her body recovered from surgery. This pause on chemotherapy treatment predictably resulted in the increase and spread of the secondary cells.

Jane treatment resumed with a new and more aggressive chemotherapy.  A scan last week found that although the new treatment was not as effective as was hoped, at this stage it seemed to be stopping the majority of the cells from increasing and spreading.

Jane is looking at all options of treatment including alternative therapies to complement western medicine and is currently pursuing diet, exercise, meditation, yoga, acupuncture and chinese medicine.

The stress of dealing with the financial impact of cancer and trial treatments  (which are not covered by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme aka PBS) plus chemo medication & all the daily living expenses is extremely challenging for Jane and her family. Immediately after her diagnosis Jane had to stop working and the cancer and it’s side effects do not allow her to work at all.

Our aim is to relieve this immense pressure on the family so the family can afford daily living costs and Jane can be free to try whatever treatment she needs to heal.

We are so grateful for whatever you can contribute.
