Makayla’s fight against an inoperable brain tumor:

For those of you that don’t already know my niece MaKayla Wasson 15 year old daughter of Becky and Jed Wasson was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in September 2018.  She’s been through a brain biopsy which determined that she has a Pilocytic astrocytoma. Which is a very rare type of brain tumor. Normally these types of tumors are removed with surgery but with MaKayla’s case they can not perform the surgery to remove it because the tumor is pushing against her optic nerves and is far too close to her pituitary. The doctors have informed them that if they were to perform surgery with the surroundings of the tumor right now the situation could worsen. This is why the Doctors decided that Chemo would be the only option right now. They began her chemo treatments in October 2018 which she done every other week in Louisville (which is a 2 hr drive from their hometown) they’ve done this treatment for the past 4 months until MaKayla recently had a severe allergic reaction to one of the chemo medicines.. after a very long and scary week the drs finally came up with a new chemo treatment plan that they started February 13th. Her new treatment plan requires them to travel to Louisville weekly now for her new chemo to be administered and sometimes they often travel 2-3 times a week for other related appointments for Makayla. They anticipate that she will be on this new chemo for the next 12 months. This adjustment due to much more traveling has of course put a financial strain on their family. As it would anyone. I have created this page in hopes of being able to help them with there travel expenses so that they can focus on there family during this time.
