Help Maverick the German Shepherd
Donation protected
Meet Maverick. This big guy is a gentle giant.
His owner, who didn’t take very good care of Maverick decided that he didn’t want him anymore and dumped him at a shelter.
He is a full blooded shepherd with the most amazing personality we have ever seen. He is extremely well behaved and loves everyone. He is extremely sensitive to the world. One of the employees of the kennel he was being boarded at had a seizure at work and Maverick stood over her the entire time.
It became very clear to the employees of the shelter that he was in rough shape and needed extensive veterinary needs. He is very underweight, not neutered and was covered in fleas. His ears are infected with yeast and bacteria and had been bleeding from scratching them. He has several lesions from scratching from the fleas. They could tell he had some issues with his back legs but were unsure of what it might be. Maverick also tested positive for heart worm.
Knowing it would be a hard case, he pulled at the heart strings of the director of Always Hope Animal Rescue.
“I just couldn’t say no”
Upon Maverick’s arrival on Thursday 11/2 we realized just how special this boy was. He’s about 5 years old and just as sweet and loving as can be. His fur is thin from the flea reactions and his lesions were infected. His ears were packed with debris. We had planned ahead and already had an appointment scheduled with a vet for that next morning where we learned that Maverick has degenerate neuropathy. The good news is he doesn’t have to have surgery, the bad news is there is no cure and he will eventually get worse.
Our “plan of attack” is to get Maverick neutered first and give him a week to rest from being fixed. He will then start his heart worm treatment which is not only expensive but also very painful. We are having a blood test done with a neurologist to confirm the neuropathy. This test is also very expensive.
Always Hope is a 501c3 nonprofit rescue completely run by volunteers. We do not have any paid employees. We try and take the tougher cases on but we often find ourselves short on funds. We are asking for help with Maverick’s medical costs.AlwaysHopeAnimalRescue.org
