Care for Michael
Donation protected
On July 31st, Michael Newland was born 16 weeks premature.
He weighed 1.46 pounds.
The doctors gave him am Apgar score of 0001, which basically means that the doctors believed he stood no chance.
...but a miracle happened.
His body was failing him, and then it started getting better.
Instead of his lungs failing, they started growing and functioning.
Instead of belly continuing to swell and harden, after about a week it began to reverse.
(When your intestines harden, you can't digest food. And when you can't digests food, you can't make it).
We can't explain it. But here we are. A miracle reversed a lot of the initial problems...
...But Michael's fight isn't over.
His most worrisome struggle is that he's diagnosed with a level 3 and level 4 Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH).
This is the most severe diagnoses of this condition where a lot of pressure was put on Michael's young, innocent brain.
The doctors assure us that this is possible to treat with early intervention, including ongoing therapy, constant checkups for accurate diagnosis, and other special needs related issues.
Luckily, insurance pays for the hospital stay. But what they don't pay for is everything else... the therapists... specialized equipment for the house to monitor him going forward... specialized childcare... or anything like that.
And that's why we are launching this GoFundMe.
It hurts me to ask. I'm too prideful to even write this. But my wife insisted. "It's not about you. It's about Michael."
And she's right.
So, here I am. Asking for help. If you can donate even a dollar... or a penny... to help Michael live a normal life, it would be a tremendous help.
Thank you.
We hope to bring him home from the hospital before thanksgiving. We've come so far, and we can't wait to see what can happen in years to come.
