Alice is normally a very energetic, playful and talkative cat. A few weeks ago Alice started laying around a lot and she stopped eating her dry food and drinking water. She continued to drink 2% milk and eat tuna and snacks here and there. Then about two weeks ago, she stopped eating and drinking completely and even stopped using the bathroom. We started feeding her kitten formula through a syringe, then water and even baby food. Here and there it seemed like she was getting better, then out of nowhere it seemed like she had gotten worse. Alice was taken into the vet a week ago and we were basically told that she’s constipated. After a week of trying to get her to eat and go to the bathroom, she finally did two days ago. Even with that, her health continued to deteriorate.
Today, Alice was brought into a veterinarian hospital. We were told that she has swollen kidneys, her organs are not functioning properly and that her heart rate and breathing is far below what it should be. All in all, she is in very poor shape. We were then told that our options were either move forward and pay for her treatment or if we couldn’t, then she would have to stay at the facility to be euthanized because she was too sick to go home with us.
In the end, we were told that if we chose to move forward then they would take her back immediately and start taking care of her right away. Her immediate treatment will consist of blood work, urinalysis, administration of IV fluids through catheter, radiology, various medications and on going treatments and/ or surgeries if it comes down to it. She will be staying with them overnight until she is able to be taken home. The initial price for one night and the first day of testing is running close to $3,500. If she needs further testing and has to continue to stay, then it’ll be running at least an additional $500 per day.
Alice is such a sweet, precious little cat. She has been the absolutely most lovable baby since we got her at seven weeks, four years ago. She instantly stole our hearts and all of the love we had to give. She has always been so playful and loving and very spirited! Anyone who knows her knows how much she means to us. She is our baby, our sweet little angel. She means the absolute world to us and it is killing us just to be away from her right now. We would really appreciate any and all help that we could possibly get for our sweet baby!
