Hawksbill Turtle Solar Pump Project

Hawksbill Turtles are critically endangered and need all the help they can get.  This Go Fund Me campaign is to raise money to buy and install a solar pump for the Hawksbill Turtle Rookery at the Tranquility Eco Resort in Vanuatu. The rookery in Vanuatu raises baby turtles and carefully nurtures them until 25 cm in length. At this size their suvival rates are much improved. They are then taged and released into the wild. Hopefully 20 years later they will return to lay eggs. 

Currently visiting tourists pay the operating expenses of the Rookery such as turtle food and petrol for the pump (the largest expense). Your donation will go towards a solar pump to replace the petrol pump currently in use. This will greatly reduce  CO2 emmisions and allow precious resources to be invested back in the project to improve conservation outcomes for the turtles. Alongside the turtle project we aim to implement solar training in local villages. Including the local population in conservation projects increases ownership and chances of sucess.

Opportunities are available for volunteers to assist in this project. Volunteers including myself pay their own airfares but in country expenses are covered (if we can raise enough money). So if you want to be a part of it after donating please drop me a line.

This project is 100% transparent with finances so independent adudit will be available at the end of the project.
