Animal Rescue Relief Efforts
by MARS of Illinois
(Midwest Animal Rescue Service)
Licensed no-kill animal rescue (#13839)
As relief efforts are underway in the areas of devastation in the wake of Hurricane Harvey,  thousands of people have found themselves displaced after their homes and belongings were ravaged by the storm.  People are not the only ones finding themselves with nowhere to go- the animals in the area are suddenly without shelter, food, were separated from their owners in the storm. Shelters are overwhelmed, and bracing themselves as the area prepared for even more rain.
As a small no-kill rescue, MARS of Illinois, we understand the importance of working together in order to help animals all across the nation.
Our team is currently preparing to make a trip down to the areas that are seeing the most devastation, where rescue efforts are most needed. Our goals are to assist with transport of animals that were already in the shelters in those areas, by helping to network with other groups in order to open up space for pets that have been affected by Hurricane Harvey. Many animals have found themselves lost, hurt, or in need of shelter now that their homes have been lost will need safe places to go. By helping to move animals that were already in the shelters when the storm hit, this will allow the shelters to make room for the influx of animals with nowhere to go.

We would like to be prepared to deliver needed supplies to those helping with animal rescue efforts in the area by providing dog and puppy food (dry or canned), cat and kitten food, pet beds, gallons/jugs of water, collars and leashes and medical supplies (our vets can order needed items, and your monetary contributions will help with this, as well).  We would appreciate any assistance, as we are preparing to make the trip as soon as items are collected and ready to disperse.
Once we are in the area, we will be able to get a consensus of animals that need to be relocated, and would appreciate our fellow rescuers, if you have space, to help us set up rescue commitments for as many animals as possible, and we will be assisting with transport from Texas to southern Illinois.

We would like to thank you for your generosity, and helping to make a difference in their time of need.

Sincerely,
