Send Diana to Harvard

I am a first generation Haitian-American born and raised in Naples, Florida to Gesner (deceased) and Rosiane Saintil. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the illustrious Spelman College, and secured my first post-undergraduate job with JPMorgan Chase & Company in New York. While tutoring virtually through Innovations for Learning, I reached a character-defining moment that prompted me to take a leap of faith towards what I allude to as my initial calling - education.

Upon completing one year of teaching at a charter school in New York, I decided to temporarily move back home, and continued to inspire future leaders by redefining possibilities and stimulating character education that catalyzes academic achievement. Having my boots on the ground exposed me to stark inequities and impediments that stand in opposition of narrowing the achievement gap.

While I realize we need effective educators in the classroom, my desire to influence education extends beyond one scholar, classroom, school and community. Thus, I decided it was an opportune time to pursue my graduate degree. On March 3rd, a dream once deferred due to extenuating circumstances, became an instant reality for me when I received my admission letter from the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) to earn my Ed.M. in Education Policy and Management. The intersection of God, family and friends opened the door for me to pursue my educational aspirations.

I am also the founder of the Achievement Gap Summer Challenge (AGSC), a free summer learning resource to help narrow the achievement gap. AGSC‘s goal is to challenge the gap by investing in the whole child, fostering parent engagement and developing key partnerships with the community.

At this juncture, my immediate concern is financing the cost of my education. Harvard has awarded me with a $10,000 grant towards the $75,898 cost of attendance. While a loan would be a worthwhile investment, it would place a higher burden on me as I am already $158,520.28 in debt after replacing the home my parents lost during the mortgage crisis of 2007-2010 along with a few other responsibilities. Hence, I am currently seeking additional assistance from individuals and organizations.

Thank you in advance for your generous contribution towards my Ed.M. in Education Policy & Management at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
