"Music hath charms that soothe the ravages of MS" That could easily have been a quote by Harry Warner Reid. Why? Because music helped him draw joy from life while enduring the debilitating effects of Multiple Sclerosis.
We are the friends of Harry who want to honour the memory of his remarkable life by raising funds for music teaching initiatives in elementary and secondary schools. Our effort is in conjunction with the District School Board of Niagara.
Harry held to the belief that music education of the young would widen their horizons and improve society. Through this fund-raising effort we wish to expand the availability of music instruction for school children.
We hope a 2 month GoFundMe initiative to honour Harry will raise sufficient funds to help offset some of the costs of the Niagara Elementary Instrumental Music program for children in elementary schools. We also want to help the secondary school music programs with funding where they deem it needed most.
Who was Harry? aka Warner, Nets Warner, Netminder etc. He was a life long resident of Niagara Falls. All who knew him were touched by his empathy for others and were amazed by his strength of character and stamina. In addition to that he had a terrific sense of humour and a knack for giving everyone nicknames whether they wanted them or not.
Harry had suffered a life altering injury while playing hockey at the age of 21. Many years later he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis as his physical condition deteriorated even further. He endured too many episodes of pain, discomfort, physical/mental anguish and near death to relate here. Suffice to say he inspired all he knew through his historic resolve to get the most out of a very challenged life. Music provided one of the means by which he derived joy from that life.
It is with this in mind that we ask that you donate to this fund we've set up in Harry's honour.
