Harriet's fund

So as many of you will know, this is Harriet. She's currently on a heart ward in a UK hospital and has been there for the last 5 months without even a visit outside! Sadly for Harriet and her family, it doesn't look like she'll be home for at least another 2-3 months.

I had the pleasure of meeting little Harriet when our son stayed on the ward to have open heart surgery in July. We were there for a week and it's safe to say it was one of the longest weeks of our life. I can't even begin to imagine how difficult life must be, not only for Harriet but for her mum, dad and 11 month old little brother. Her parents take it in turns to stay with her in the hospital and stay with their little boy at home- something even the most organised amongst us would find hard to juggle.

Despite Harriet  being only 3 years old, this isn't her first stay in hospital and she's already had a few open heart surgeries in her little life!

And yet, the little lady is a breath of fresh air for any family that visits the ward! Many of you will know her and her family because you've spent time with them during your own hospital stays with your little ones. I know that for us, Harriet's cheeky smile and positive attitude helped us to keep a smile on our faces during a really emotionally difficult week and she has this impact on many families week in and week out!

This girl is a superhero! Her parents are beyond amazing and I know they've had a huge impact on the lives of so many families that have stayed on that ward.

So this page has been set up to try to raise money for this amazing family and to try to make the rest of Harriet's hospital stay just that little bit more barable. There are many suggestions as to what to spend the money on at the end of it and a final decision will be made in the first week of October when we hope to have raised enough money to make her cute smile just that little bit bigger. Please feel free to ask to be added to the Facebook page so that you can contribute to the discussions about what the money will be spent on!

Please if you can only spare a small amount, it all adds up! For anyone who's reading this and doesn't know the family personally, let me tell you- I have met many many amazing families during our few hospital stays with our two disabled children but not once have I met a family so unbelievably inspirational and so positive even when times are at their hardest. Lets make their lives a little bit better like they have managed to do for most of us!!

update from Harriet's mummy...

Harriet contracted a rare infection on her heart which meant being hospitalised for at least 6 weeks whilst on antibiotics. Sadly during this time things got very complicated for her and has lead to dangerous arrhtymia problems.

No one would have ever anticipated quite how complicated things have got for her and the side effects/consequences of long term drugs completely killing her immunity and stripping her of any healing ability! A combination of the above and various collapses has meant that she now sadly needs further surgery.

This week we were dealt a big blow when they said we have at least another 2-3 months to go until her body is ready for her next surgery.
