Hand Cycle for Sweet Wardy Gosselin

So many people know our sweet, adorable, hilarious, perfect brother Ward. He's kind of a big deal in Aurora. Everywhere we go in A-town, people always recognize him and stop to chat. He's like a local celebrity! 

For those of you who aren't familiar with his back story...
Ward is the 2nd oldest of seven children and the only boy. He was born prematurely and was eventually diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Sadly, Ward has never been able to stand without assistance. In his younger days, he would primarily crawl around the house. He has otherwise relied mainly on a wheelchair to help him get around. The combination helped Ward gain impressive upper body strength growing up. As a teenager, Ward participated in the Special Olympics, excelling in the weightlifting category. His family members were his primary caretakers until he moved into an independent living facility in his early 20's.   

Ward will be 58 this year! He is healthy and happy but he seems to be slowing down a bit. He doesn't get out of his wheelchair much anymore, so his strength isn't what it used to be. We've noticed that the things he used to be able to do with ease have become more challenging, because his upper body strength is declining.  

We've created this Go Fund Me because we would like to raise funds to buy him a hand cycle. Something similar to the one in this link:  Hand Cycle . This cycle will help Ward build up his upper body and core strength, which will help in transferring him from his wheelchair to his bed, toilet, car, etc. He had a similar hand cycle many years ago. He was super buff at the time, and he loved the extra independence.  

If we go over our goal, we intend to put the extra funds toward getting Ward some personal training.  His goal is to compete in an upcoming Special Olympics!
