Hand Cycle for Carlos
Donation protected
Hello Folks, Firstly I'd like to thank you all for your support thus far.
Looking to raise funds for a hand cycle as I cannot use a regular bike.
A hand cycle is an adaptive bike that is hand propelled instead of using peddles to ride the a conventional bike. Unfortunately, these bikes are very expensive, ranging from $3,000 to $5,000. The adaptive hand cycle would help me train better especially use for cross training, para-triathlons, and for my future swimming en-devours. But most importantly, the adaptive hand cycle would allow me to go on family bike rides with my wife and daughter.
Purchasing a bike for a person with a physical disability has been a challenge. I cannot buy a bike from a big box store. The funds will be used to purchase a specialized hand cycle that will allow me to ride.
I was the first person with a disability to successfully swim across Lake Ontario in 1993. In addition, I have swam across the Strait of Messina in Italy as well as the Catalina Channel. Last year, I attempted to swim across Lake Erie. I seek to try again in 2019, and will also plan to swim another major crossing as well.
