Haley's Life-Saving Surgery

Donation protected
If you know us, you know that Nate has already suffered a loss on the 13th of March; his sister passed away from a drug overdose. So this couldn't be coming at a worst time in his life.

Rewind to January. Haley, his beloved chocolate labrador who he's had since just a pup, had been showing signs of a cough that she'd never had before. Concerned, we went to our vet and after chest x-rays, they determined she was in CHF and that the noise was the walls of the heart pressing on her esophagus. They put her on a regimen of Lasix ( water pill ) and eventually Enalapril ( a blood pressure medication ) and did regular check ups to check her progress. May I add, though: they did not once tell us to follow-up with a cardiologist. We were told to try to keep her calm as to not irritate the throat and if he sounded worse at all, to just upper her dosage of the Lasix by half.

Now rewind to this passed Saturday (  April Fools Day ) Haley had been fine all morning. Two days prior, she had gotten herself worked up and we tried to calm her down: gave her Benadryl, laid with her, pet her, etc. We were wavering taking her to the ER vet but after about 2 hours, she was fine. That Friday, we had no issues. So anyway, Haley was good until about 12:45 PM on Saturday. Then all of a sudden, she was acting very strange. I took her out to the bathroom and when I called her back in I noticed she was lethargic and salivating. She stumbled into the house and was exasperated; her ribs literally expanding to their full potentional. I also noticed that her ears, paws and nose were very hot, her nose was not wet, she was drooling uncontrollably, and although her gums were still pink...her tongue was turning purple. I knew she was struggling for air. My first thought was, "I cannot have Nate's dog die right now; he cannot handle this!" So I rushed next door and had his stepfather rush me to the emergency vet.

They immediately took her back to put her on oxygen. Long story short, they said that her heart was very enlarged and she had fluid in her lungs. After an overnight stay, being pumped with Lasix and oxygen...our bill was $1600. We were also told to follow up with a cardiologist.

Now here we are today. Nate took her to see the cardiologist and after numerous MORE tests, it was determined she in fact is NOT in CHF and actually has laryngeal paralysis in which she could actually suffocate and die. This was an additional $915 bill.

Surgery is going to cost us anywhere between $3-5K.

I cannot have Nate lose his dog right now, but this is a lot of money that we are stressing about. Nate is trying to clean up his credit, so anything we can get to lower the blow on Care Credit would be AMAZING!

I know that some people think "oh, it's just a dog"...but to us, these dogs are our children. If you know me, Haley is to Nate as Lola is to me. We need her to have this surgery. Aside from this issue, she is healthy as can be: good sight, good joints, still very active and playful. We have to do what we can for her.

And we appreciate all the help we can possibly get.
