Hi all!
My name is Hal Simons and I'm a 30 year old man based in Melbourne, Australia. I have a back injury which severely impacts my abilities (both physically and mentally), as well as my quality of life. I have three worn discs and these do not heal. I am however getting better at managing my injury.
Most days include a variety of challenges; difficulty in getting dressed, occasionally collapsing in agony, or limited functional ability just to name a few. All my days contain pain at varying levels as well as reduced mobility.
I am currently battling Centrelink with an application for the Disability Support Pension. These things take time and there is no guarantee that I will get it. But I hold out hope.
At the moment, I am living about 25% below the poverty line and it sucks a monumental amount. As I am unable to work, this leaves me in a pretty vulnerable and skint position. I've been able to keep my head above water with food parcels from charity organisations, and having loved ones support me.
But it is tough. Spectacularly so.
So here is my request: If you can see your way clear to send money in my direction, either as a one off or on going, I would be incredibly grateful.
It will go towards bills, ongoing treatments for my back and related issues (psychologist, massage therapy, walking stick), much needed dental work and glasses, and towards a car to make it easier to get around as public transport is a literal pain.
I will also use the money for things that make my life a little easier or increase my quality of life; good and healthy food, coffee, books, and the occasional computer game.
