Hakeem's Houses of Hope

Hakeem’s Houses of Hope was founded in honor of Hakeem Mudada. Hakeem was born with microcephaly which caused him to have numerous health conditions. He was born to a 16 year old young mother who her self was a ward of the state of Illinois.  At 16, Hakeem’s mother was faced with the possibility of putting her newborn child in a nursing facility that serviced children with disabilities. This was due to no local shelters or group homes for teen mothers servicing this particular segment of the population.

Imagine you are young and pregnant with your first child. You have limited resources and no stable home. You have watched your belly grow and felt the many kicks, somersaults and unknown body parts reaching through your skin. Now imagine that you have just given birth and doctors walking in to your hospital room. They have informed you that the child that you have carried for nine months has a disability and would require a tremendous amount of support and care. The same child that for nine months you have grown to love and when you heard their first cry tears of joy and happiness filling your heart. Where are you to turn for help? This is Hakeem’s story.

In order to honor Hakeem and his valued role that he played in his mother’s life and the lives of others who knew him. She embarked on a mission to ensure that no parent, especially a parent of a child with disabilities would have to be separated from their child due to their lack of housing.

Families that will come to stay at Hakeem’s Houses of Hope will have a place that they call home, support, and access to resource to ensure that they are given every opportunity to succeed regardless of their new way of life. We know that we are limited to our reach of helping everyone but our goal is to substantially increase our impact in the lives of the individuals we seek to service.

Hakeem’s Houses of Hope believes that when you inspire and empower young parents of disabled children by providing housing, educational and employment resources they can live a life of abundance and obtain their life goals. Hakeem was with us for four years and memories of his strength and smile will live on in the hearts, minds and the work that Hakeem's Houses of Hope will do.

This work will not be possible without the help from individuals just like you. Like any not for profit starting out getting funding without a 501 (c) 3 is an extremely hard task.
