Haiti Rotation

My name is Journey McCarty and I am a fourth year Doctorate student at Harding University College of Pharmacy.  

As you see pictured, in 2007 and 2008 I had the opportunity to travel to Rio Bravo, Mexico with my youth group for mission trips.  During one of those trips part of the group volunteered at the local pharmacy and we saw first hand how much they needed to be able to operate as a pharmacy.  We were able to raise money and make a donation to the pharmacy.  By this time I already had an interest in the pharmacy profession, but it was this trip that would spark an interest in medical missions. 

I am now over half way finished with my fourth year of my doctorate of pharmacy program and will graduate in May.  As one of my rotations during my last year of pharmacy school, I applied and was selected to go on an international medical rotation in January to  Haiti.  I was chosen as one of six students to be awarded this opportunity, and I am looking for help in raising the money. 

We will be traveling to Canaan Christian Community located north of Port-Au-Prince.   In 2010, the leadership of Canaan opened a clinic on campus to treat the local medically underserved community.  The clinic averages 50-75 patients per day.  

Our role during our time in Haiti will be reorganizing the clinic medications, expanding the medications the clinic has to offer with the donations we bring, providing education to the clinic staff so that they can be better equipped to help serve their community, and we will be working hands on in the clinic during our stay.  

I am so thankful for my mission trips to Mexico that helped spark an interest in medical missions.  I am beyond blessed to find myself 10 years later gearing up for a rotation that combines two of my biggest passions, missions and pharmacy.  I am asking for donations either big or small to help make this rotation the best experience not only for myself and my team, but also so we can deliver the best care possible to the Canaan Christian Community.
