Hair for Hope: Breylen's Story

This is a story about our 10 year old son Breylen and his strive to raise money for his selfless act of love.
Breylen, who is well known for his long curly hair, has been growing his hair out over the last 2 ½ years and loves it so much that he would absolutely refuse to let us cut it, for any reason! Several weeks ago our family received devastating news that his aunt was diagnosed with stage 2 Breast cancer and needed to start chemo right away. As we sat our boys down to tell them about their “Aunt Pudding” (Jessie Wilson-Price) having cancer, Breylen looked at me with great sadness in his eyes and without hesitation stated “Mom, I’ll cut off my hair for aunt Pudding to have a wig”, “Don’t worry mom, it only took me two years to grow it out!” when he was asked why, he stated “I don’t want aunt Pudding being bullied for not having any hair (Hair loss due to chemo). At that point my heart melted and all I wanted to do was cry tears of joy because I’ve never known a 10 year old child, let alone a BOY, want to do something to this extent. I also had tears of sadness that he was so concerned with her being bullied. Unfortunately in Breylen’s short lifetime he has repeatedly been the victim of bullying, but by the grace of God he has and still does overcome these obstacles. Later Breylen told his grandmother, “Gram, every two years ill cut my hair and make a wig because no one with cancer deserves to be bullied for not having any hair”. God put this act of love in Breylen’s heart and he acted on it. Words cannot express how proud we are of our son. He is truly an inspiration to so many people.
The cost of the wig is approximately $1000, it certainly something we just don’t have. My sisters hair has already begun to fall out. It takes approximately 8-10 weeks for the wig to be made. So we are asking for help, to help Breylen’s selfless act come to life and to be able to give his aunt Pudding a little hope. We will be having a fundraiser “Striking out Cancer” for my sister this Sunday; Breylen will be cutting off his hair at the event!!! Any donations are greatly appreciated; it brings him one step closer to reaching his goal!! His selflessness for someone in need is none other than the true definition of pure LOVE.
