I am Nefari Nzinga Steele, a senior majoring in Mass Communications with minors in Marketing and Fashion at Virginia State University. . I am competing in the Miss Black and Gold Pageant, sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. If I win the Miss Black and Gold pageant, I will earn a scholarship that will help me complete my degree with no worries.
My platform for the competition focuses on the acknowledgement of Black cultural contributions in media, as well as crediting and recognizing Black individuals who have impacted all facets of communications. Upon graduation, I will become a Public Relations Specialist with the primary goal of increasing the number of positive Black images in the media.
