Everyday, about 830 women die from maternal causes and thousands more will suffer from long-term disabilities. This is about one woman every two minutes dying when giving life. Most of these deaths and injuries are entirely preventable.
The women of Keur Simbara, a village located 7 kilometers from the city of Thies, Senegal, are delivering their babies in shocking conditions. Built in 1985, the maternity is in dire conditions, without any maternal-infant care equipment or emergency assistance.
