In late March of this year, our mother took a serious fall in her house. She was diagnosed with an aggressive and inoperable brain tumor, and she immediately underwent emergency brain surgery to have it removed.
While the surgery was deemed a success at the time, soon afterwards, however, it was determined that the part of the tumor the surgeons were unable to remove remained active. According to the most recent tests, it continues to grow.
As a direct result of the tumor, she has lost the use of most of her left side, and, as a direct result of the fall, she developed a serious blood clot. Physical therapy helped her regain some feeling but tired her out. Her pain has been somewhat under control of medicines.
On Monday, May 7th, she was moved to a hospice facility where she will be cared for, keeping her as comfortable as possible. The medical costs associated with hospice care are covered (80/20) by her health insurance, however, room and board are not. The family is struggling to find ways to keep up with those costs – 1 day costs about $200, 1 month of room and board alone will cost $6000 (plus co-payments on her medical costs).
We are reaching out to all of Mary’s loving friends to consider donating to Mary’s hospice care to relieve some of the financial burden on her family. This help honors her warm and caring spirit which will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
