My name is Ray and I am a 21 year old trans man who is trying to raise money to pay for private top surgery. I was able to start testosterone through the London Transgender Clinic in September 2018 which has made me feel so much more comfortable with myself and my body, but I am in desperate need of top surgery.
I was referred to the Gender Identity Clinic in London in January 2018, but the current waiting time for a first appointment is approximately 36 months, meaning I won't be seen until January next year at the earliest. Then, I would have to wait over 18 months for a second appointment for a possible referral to a top surgeon, and then I would have to wait on their list. This means that if I were to wait for the NHS path I wouldn't be getting top surgery until 2022 or 2023, which I just can't do.
My chest is naturally very, very large and causes me a great deal of physical pain, including severe back and shoulder pain. I've dealt with this pain since before I even started binding, but I'm currently at the point where I can't really wear my binder at all anymore. I work in social care which means that I'm frequently misgendered as I cannot bind, and I also rarely feel comfortable going out anymore meaning that I'm very isolated. It's also not safe for me to go out without my binder on since I've started passing as male more, meaning I am visibly trans and have dealt with harassment because of this. My mental health is rapidly deteriorating due to the amount of distress my chest dysphoria and chronic pain causes me and I am beyond desperate for any help at this point.
Private top surgery can cost up to £7000 or more, and I am very well aware that I won't be able to raise the entire sum on GoFundMe. Any money raised will go towards a consultation with a gender psychologist, appointments with my chosen surgeon, the actual surgery itself and aftercare, as well as travel expenses. I am saving up money from my job, but I also have to consider rent, bills and food.
I wish I didn't have to resort to crowdfunding, but I don't have any other options. Please don't feel obligated to donate, but if you could spare any money that would be beyond appreciated. If you can't, all I can ask is please share this and help me out. Thank you!
