Supporting the Melias after floods

Donation protected
Boxing Day 2015 the Melias House was flooded, they lost the entire contents of their home and their business as they are both childminders working from home.

What a dreadful day Boxing Day 2015 turned out to be. After horrendous rains, I was surfing Facebook and noticed my lifelong friends house was on flood alert.

I had already seen images on Facebook of the Waterside in summerseat collapse and so sent charlotte a message half jokingly asking if her house was on 'flood alert' and did she want me to check it as she was away with her family in Skegness.

What unfolded in the next few house was simp,y someth ing I never in a million years thought I would experience.

after messaging Charlotte, who initially said it would be fine and no need to check, called me back and said her neighbours said water was lapping around and her neighbours said we needed to get there.

So we dashed in the car down there, roads were blocked, bridges crumbling and closed. We had to walk in with water past my knees. We got to their road and I realy started to panic as water was already thigh high.

What followed was two hours of us and two other friends crying trying to move Christmas gifts and memories upstairs as the whole of the downstairs was flooded. Every room was several feet under water.

Charlotte and Dominic not only have lost the entire downstairs of their home but they are both registered childminders and so have lost their income too.

It will be many months before they get sorted out and are insured but I'm the short term they have no ability to go out to work and continue earning and will have much upset and many costs to manage.

Today is a new day, the clear up will begin but I know they have many friends far and near who want to show them their support.....and they will need it.

I now Christmas is a costly time for everyone but this could have so easily been any one of us. Any donation will be greatly received to help them function over the next few months.

I really thought I would be making a call to her in Skegness telling her not to worry, it was raining but nothing on her street and to enjoy their time away...little did I know.
