The Zane Campaign
Donation protected
In October last year my 3 year old nephew Zane was tragically hit by a car. He was taken to the paediatric intensive care unit at Westmead Children’s Hospital and 10 days later my sister and brother in law had to make the hard decision to turn his life machine off. Zane was completely brain dead and would have had no quality of life. When they made the decision to turn the machine off my sister mentioned she wanted to donate my nephews organs. In doing so, she would not be able to pick the time my nephews life support machine would be turned off, it was up to the hospital and the traffic. Not only that but she would only be allowed to be with him for two minutes once he had passed and he would then need to go into surgery. My sister said there was no choice, if she could save other children’s lives than it was worth it. The precious little time she had with him, it was worth having less to save the lives of others.
Zane went on to save five lives. A beautiful 5 year old boy who received a double lung transplant, a five month old girl and adult male who each received a kidney and his heart valve was dissected into two pieces and be given to two other people. Those three people who received his organs would not be alive if it wasn't for our super hero Zaney.
Then in their darkest hour, my sister and brother in law were completely selfless and thinking of others, they decided they wanted to give back to the PICU unit at Westmead and started a Go Fund Me Page raising money for the hospital. The unit needed 20k to reach their fundraising goal to buy new equipment. My sister was adamant she would raise it for them. In less than two weeks they raised over 70k.
Now they want to raise money for the City to Surf. Their goal is to raise another $5000 for the hospital in Zanes name.
