15 West Coffeehouse and Wil Darcangelo & the Tribe are joining efforts to bring North Central Mass "The 15 West Coffeehouse Backpack Project," a youth-driven initiative to support homeless youth in Leominster and Fitchburg, Massachusetts. We re assembling 60 backpacks containing essential items to prepare homeless youth for the winter.
We need your help. the cost of items for the packs range from $5-50. The youth from our organizations will assemble the packs with the essential items, and with the help of shelters, food pantries, police and fire departments, and word of mouth will ensure these backpacks reach those homeless youth who can benefit from this Winter Survival Kit.
One great problem of homelessness in today’s culture is the impact it makes on children and teens. Keeping them in school and giving them a sense of belonging and continuity is crucial to healing their fragmented sense of well-being. They are fragile and scared inside, regardless of their toughened exterior. Homeless kids are more likely to get into trouble with the law, be truant from school, or live a life of diminished capacity. Accurate data is difficult to obtain and validate due to the transitional and often “invisible” nature of the population, according to Horizons for Homeless Children. But the statistics are irrelevant when one child is standing before you in need. We do not need to know the statistics of homelessness in order to serve them in whatever way we are capable.
