Gulnara's Cancer Battle

Diagnoses
In August of 2016, my sister, Gulnara, was diagnosed with stage 2 lung cancer. In Kazakhstan, medical care is free; unfortunately, the medicine and practices are not advanced enough to effectively fight all cancer cases. Often, cancer patients are just left to die. After three months on the hospital's wait list for treatment, our family decided no more time could be wasted-- my sister needed immediate help.

Treatment
Because getting treated in our home country seemed hopeless, our family decided that a cancer treatment facility in Turkey was Gulnara's best option to regain her health. Finally, several months after her diagnoses, my sister began chemotherapy.

The Cost
After using all their savings, selling their apartment, and receiving help from her entire family, funds for Gulnara's treatment eventually ran out. However, the treatment that she could afford cost more than just money; when we chose a less expensive medicine, our family did not realize how many side effects it would come with. My sister is suffering from severe swelling in her legs, hair loss, constant vomiting, extreme weight loss, and awful stomach pain. She needs a more effective and safer treatment.

Life Without Cancer
Gulnara is a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, and a mother of two boys (ages 28 and 30). In 2015, one of her children married and, shortly after, she became a grandmother when they had a baby boy. During her battle with cancer, Gulnara's son and daughter-in-law had another baby boy who is now just 5 months old. This 55-year-old woman is incredibly kind, humble, and caring. Through much of her adult life, my sister was a pediatrician. However, in Kazakhstan, doctors are only paid the USD equivalent of about $300 a month. For this small income, Gulnara helped thousands of kids stay healthy and safe.

A Chance for Life
Now, Gulnara needs help redeeming her own health. Her doctor prescribed the most promising treatment (Keytruda), which costs $6,100 for one session of chemotherapy; she needs to go through 16. Our family was able to pull together and pay for three sessions, but we need help. To save Gulnara's life, we need to raise $92,000. This will cover her diagnostics, chemotherapy, and hospital stay. Donations are our last chance to receive the best possible treatment. Your help will prolong Gulnara's life and give her the opportunity to see her grandsons grow up. We are all so grateful for any help we can get for my sister. Every little bit counts; even just one dollar makes a big difference. Thank you!
