G.S Kibondo Courts 4 Kids Fundraiser

Donation protected
Description of Project:

GS Kibondo, a public primary and secondary school in Northeast Rwanda, is teaming up with Courts For Kids to build a basketball court for the students and greater Kibondo community. One of Kibondo's science teachers, UWAMUNGU Daniel, has teamed up with both American volunteers and Courts For Kids in order to make this project possible. Though his hard work, Daniel was awarded a grant from Courts For Kids to cover part of the cost for this court. A group of volunteers from Kansas State will travel to Kibondo in May 2020 to help members of the school and local community build the basketball court. These volunteers will assist with labor and provide the tools for the court's construction. However, we still need your help to fund and purchase materials for the court's completion.

About the Community:

Kibondo, Rwanda is a rural, agricultural community, built in the former Akagera park after 1994. Containing two schools, G.S. Kibondo and St. Silas, and a regional health center, Kibondo is home to many teachers and health professionals. However, many residents of the village and surrounding area continue to suffer economic hardship following the genocide of 1994. Alongside, Rwandan residents, this region is also a home and educational center for a large number of Congolese refugees. Many of these refugees are also students who attend G.S. Kibondo.

What Your Donations Will Fund:

This basketball court has been a group effort since it's beginning. Courts For Kids will assist through bringing specific tools and materials (which help to increase the longevity of the court) and volunteer labor. The school and community are helping through their donations of labor, land, and money. Importantly, contributions from you are necessary to gather materials such as; concrete, rocks, sand, cement machine, etc. Along with contractors and knowledgable workers who help guide the project.

What this Project Means:

There is an often used phrase in Kinyarwanda, "buhoro buhoro," which roughly translates into "slow-by-slow" or "a little at a time." "Buhoro buhoro" describes this project exactly. Building a basketball court in Kibondo has taken the time and effort of many people working together. Please know that your donation to this project will go towards the completions of a long-term goal within Kibondo; to build a basketball court for Kibondo's kids.

Thank you for considering this project! We hope you make a donation! To help us reach our goal, please share this with your friends and family!
