GROWING BEARDS FOR KIDS OF MALIE

Fixed Plant Maintenance, Electrical and Instrumentation Coordinators from Newcrest Mining Limited, Lihir Island PNG, got together to find a way to give back to the local community. As a part of our cultural awareness training, we visited a number of local villages in the surrounding communities. One of the Islands visited was Sinambiet Island, part of the Malie Island group.  During this visit, we noticed how little sporting equipment the children had available to them to enjoy what our children at times take for granted.

Collectively, we come up with an idea to raise money to purchase some sporting goods, and anything else the school may require.  What better way, and I'm sure our wives and partners will all agree, than to not shave until Christmas.... We started with a clean shave on the 3rd of May, and will not shave again until the 29th of November, when we will then present the school with sporting equipment purchased from the funds we have raised.
