Greenwich Village Orchestra Annual Campaign

$12,265 of $15,000 goal

Raised by 43 people in 2 months
Created March 17, 2019

This year, the Greenwich Village Orchestra has tackled more ambitious repertoire than ever before, and we could not be more proud of or excited about all we have achieved.

We have come so far since 1986, when we first sat down to make music together. Ever since then, we have remained a true community orchestra: none of our musicians pay dues, our members are not paid to perform, and we play purely because we love to bring music to our community.

Our community lost a treasured member this year. Lory Diez, a longtime member of our viola section, passed away in January. We plan to endow two chairs in her honor for our Principal Viola and Principal Oboe.

As we reflect on this past year and look ahead to our next season—which promises even more ambitious programming and terrific soloists—we know that none of what we do would matter without our terrific audience. Please consider supporting the GVO to help us plan for an exciting season ahead and endow these chairs in loving memory of our dear friend, Lory.

Gifts to this campaign before May 13, 2019 will be listed in a commemorative donor insert when the GVO performs Holsts "The Planets" in its concert "The Earth in Context" on May 19, 2019.

$5,000 - The Cosmos
You're right up there with Gustav Holst - you'll be helping make the GVO's dreams a reality!

$2,500 - The Milky Way
Let's put the Earth (and the other planets) in a little closer context - we're all in this galaxy together.

$1,000 - The Sun
Without it, we'd all be living on the dark side...

$500 - Pick a Planet
Holst only wrote seven, but we think Pluto still counts. (Are you the Bringer of War? The Bringer of Peace? The Winged Messenger? The Bringer of Jollity? The Bringer of Old Age? The Magician? The Mystic?)

$250 - Pick a Moon
Io? Phobos? Europa? Ganymede? Carpo? Deimos? Oberon? Puck? Desdemona? Charon? Our very own moon?

$100 - The Stars
When we gaze up at the heavens, this is what we see every day. We're already an orchestra of stars, so help make our universe light up.
