GREEN BAY SWING PROJECT
OUR MISSION: Infinite Wonder is “Striving to provide avenues of infinite opportunities for teens and adults with varying abilities.”
Our goal is to make the Green Bay area a more inclusive community. The first step toward that goal is
making our local parks more inclusive by supplying adaptive swings for several Green Bay parks. The Green Bay Parks Committee
and the Green Bay City Council approved Infinite Wonder to fundraise and supply the Park System with ADA swings as well as several Parent/Child swings.
Currently, only 15% of the Green Bay Parks have adapted swings and no parks have the parent/child
swings as they have just recently become available. Please help us to increase that percentage and
create inclusive environments that families can enjoy together.
Single ADA Swings will be installed at Sullivan, Murphy and Perkins Parks. Parent/Child Swings will be
installed at Bay Beach, Perkins and Colburn Parks.
By providing these swings, families will have more accessible recreational opportunities in the community.
The single adaptive swing will allow any child with special needs the accessibility to enjoy typical child
activities. Those children with low muscle tone, poor truck support, who are paralyzed, or on the Autism
Spectrum will benefit from the extra support for the child, allowing them the freedom to experience the joys of swinging.
Typical parents and children will have more fun interacting as they swing in the Parent/Child swing.
According to Dr. Stuart Brown, M.D, founder of The National Institute of Play: “This swing allows mutual,
joy-filled eye contact that activates the hard-wired play ‘state’ to spontaneously and vigorously emerge. It allows intergenerational mutual play to occur throughout the life cycle and stimulates cerebra-cerebella circuits that we know are hugely important for developmental competency.”
Grandparents and/or Veterans that may have mobility and/or balance issues can sit and swing with their
children/grandchildren The benefit of face to face parallel play in this swing can lead to better
communication skills, peer play, emotions, actions, and personal connections.
