The kids played 7 long games each  over 3 days . There were over 2300 kids playing chess! This was a huge tournament for kids from all over the US, yet our team was the only one from Maryland at the championships.
We came home with an impressive 12th place team trophy and one of our amazing kids received
an 11th place individual trophy as well.

We are so proud of their accomplishments and making it to the US Chess Nationals.

UPDATE! We have updated our fundraising goal and are closer than ever!


From May 10-12, 2019, The United States Chess Federation invites children K-6 to compete in The National Elementary Championship in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Green School of Baltimore is an elementary public school that serves 150 children, K-5 in Baltimore City .

8 years ago, parent volunteers started with just a handful of kids, now more than 35 are guided and mentored by Coach Rick Brummer.
Learning the game is only part of the magic of chess. Kids learn honesty, strategy, camaraderie, loyalty, math, patience, sportsmanship, and team spirit to name a few.

The kids have been putting in the work.
Extra practices, homework, playing additional games around the city, and attending and winning regional tournaments.

Coach and the kids know they are ready to compete on the national level.

Here's where you come in...
We need to get these Baltimore Chess kids to Nashville.
We need to pay their tournament fees.
We need to pay for accommodations and food.

Maryland Chess is supporting our efforts, GSB parents and teachers are supporting our efforts, but it's not enough.....WE NEED YOU!

This is our first ever fundraiser for the Chess Team!

9 GSB Chess Team players
7  parents (1 per family)

When is it?
Thursday 9th travel day BWI-BNA (to Nashville)
10, 11, 12 tournament days
Monday 13th travel day BNA-BWI (to Baltimore)
