Gracey's Veterinary Bills
Hello, everyone. I'm author Sharon E. Cathcart. Our kitty, Gracey, recently spent three days in the veterinary ICU. She started out with a life-threatening fever of unknown origin; every test came back negative. An internal medicine specialist was called in, and she started testing for flea-borne ailments.
As it turns out, Gracey has bartonella, also known as cat-scratch fever. This is a flea-born illness that can be transmitted to humans. Luckily, as soon as the vet said she was testing for flea-borne illness, we did some additional research. It turns out that fleas can develop resistance to treatments over time, so we needed to change to a longer-lasting med ... and treated all of our other cats immediately.
Gracey's hospital stay cost us more than $4,000. She will also be on a six-week course of antibiotics to cure her.
Several friends have said they would like to chip in toward Gracey's care, so I started this fundraiser. Gracey is an alumna of the shelter where I volunteer (she is wearing her little "I <3 Humane Society Silicon Valley" shirt in this photo). I am staying away from the shelter until her course of antibiotics is done; I don't want to accidentally bring in an infected flea, in spite of all our precautions.
Any and all help is much appreciated. Thank you for having a look.
