Rachael's Adoption Dream
Donation protected
My name is Rachael Hughes. I've known that I was unable to have children since I was 17. That was 17 years ago. I battled with the depression this caused, wrote a memoir, forged ahead and married into a beautiful family. My two stepsons even want a sister (serendipity). Because of my strong relationship with my mom, I have always dreamed of adopting a little girl. My ONLY requirements are that she is not allergic to cats and that she is healthy. They are my furry children. I chose adoption for many reasons: my own genetics are predisposed to miscarriage, retardation, malformations, birth defects, etc. I also want to give a girl already in this world a loving stronghold. I currently nanny a little girl, and the desire to rear my own little girl grows each day. If we get to choose a name, I will call her Grace Gretchen Hughes. Grace because of a nickname from both my mom and my mother-in-law. That, and she will "grace" our lives with love and sunshine.
I wrote a memoir about my struggle in the medical community as a part of my MFA in Creative Writing...with the bills of adulthood and student loans, as well as building a house for our family, this is the only feasible way I can make my dream come true. Even with the memoir's upcoming publication (called Us Girls--more info and updates here: https://www.facebook.com/rachaeljhugheswritesforyou/) I know that it will not allow me to afford a little girl. I cannot entertain the foster system, because their end goal is to return the child to the family and this would destroy me. $50,000 is an estimate, as I am new to this. Any donation is greatly appreciated!!! I am slowly adding my own funding to a savings account as well. Any funding given will be used for my little girl. Thank you for helping me make this lifelong dream a reality.
UPDATE: My memoir will be published this year! Any funds received from the story will go to this fund! More details coming soon! THANK YOU!
