Hello friends!!! One of the beloved horses from my school team is in need of some prayers!! He has been a team favorite for High Point University Equestrian Team and all teams in the IHSA Zone 5 Region 4 family!! He is loved among so many in IEA all over!! He has been to IEA Nationals and competed for levels of all sorts. He has done Walk-Trot up to the 2' classes and higher in his younger days. His name is Tobias. Our team and teams from our IHSA region are all sending prayers and good vibes to Tobias. He has taught so many young riders no matter if they had never been on a horse or competed at the top levels for shows. Tobias is a gentle as they come and is as patient as anyone could ask for. He is a gentle old soul and a wonderful teacher. This year he was nominated for the IHSA Horse of the Year award.
This morning our coach Cathy Schlaeppi found him in his stall as if he'd gotten cast (for non horse people this is when a horse gets stuck in a position and cannot move for some time). He ended up rolling his gut (which is extremely painful) and had gotten cuts all over his face. He was taken to the vet school early this afternoon. There they found that he has a displacement in his liver and he was very dehydrated. An update came in from our coach, she said "So as of right now they have finished all the bloodwork tests, and his bloodwork is coming back good. He has a massive impaction, and his colon is huge! I got the ultrasound And you can see this colon is twice the size It should be and it’s pressing up against his lung, his spleen. They have tubed him with fluids twice, they put a cather in his neck in case he won’t tolerate the tubing. Right now they are using it to keep him on pain killers and some sedation. They’re going to tube him every hour on the hour if he’ll put up with it; and if he won’t then they’ll go to every two hours, and then if that doesn’t work will have to start the IV fluids."
