Re-Build the Kuhs Farm Chicken Coop

Donation protected
It's very rare for me to post anything about farmlife without a beautiful photo and a happy story. This morning that is not the case. On Saturday January 23rd around 10:30pm a teenage boy came running up the farmside driveway - from the road - yelling the shed was on fire. I ran off the porch and together we ran towards the shed that was billowing smoke. It was actually the biggest chicken house. My heart dropped. He ran with me all the way to the door and we unlocked it and pulled as many chickens and ducks out as we could. We could not save them all, but we really tried. There were about 100 chickens and 40 ducks in this large building.

The fire grew so quickly, I have never seen anything so powerful. As we were herding the chickens and ducks away from the burning collapsing building I called 911 and Nick and Luli who raced over.

There was no chance of controlling the flames or stopping the damage taking place. The Spanish Lake Fire Department arrived quickly and immediately went to work fighting the flames. They did such an incredible job - working quickly as a team to put out the flames and keep the damage to just the house.

Total we lost at least 4 turkeys, and at least 40 chickens. We lost the home where they live every day. We lost the backround for some of my favorite photo op's at the farm.

What do we do? We rebuild. I want to give Luli the gift of her coop back.

Anything you can do to help rebuild will be such a gift. Maintaining all of the animals that make the farm so special doesn't leave a lot of room in the budget for things like a brand new chicken house/coop.

The "Farmside" of Kuhs Farm has served as an Animal Rescue for quite some time. Almost all of the animals that live on the farm have come from an abusive or abandonded situation. Luli and Nick are always the first to help if the opportunity presents itself.

Here are some pictures from the fire:

Right now - rebuilding doesn't even seem real. How do you build something when less than 24 hours ago it dissapeared in front of you? I need your help. Help me do this for someone who has done so much for North County, for St. Louis, and for animals everywhere.

Thank you for taking time to listen to my story. Any help you can give will be so appreciated. As we get further into the regrouping process we will think of  ways to show our appreciation.
