GOODWORKS: YEMEN CLEAN WATER PROJECT answers the questions: Who, What, When, Where, Why & How? As salaamu alaikum. My name is Diyazan Saeed. My family and I recognized that one way to truly  fight the spead of Cholera in Yemen is to provide more than money... but aid in a solution. The current Cholera crisis in Yemen has effected (as of 12/17/17) over 1 million people and has claimed 2,225 deaths in almost 8 months. The goal is to supply personal filtration straws that will provide clean and safe water to drink. The people who are the most  at risk are those who have already suffered loss of family members, many of which are still in or near the hospital. The goal is to have them return home with a solution to save other at-risk loved ones. It would be a dangerous and impossible task to visit many areas in which Cholera is rampant to deliver these life saving devices. This remains true even when traveling to certain strongholds in some cities. A solution to that is to distribute the filtration straws to hospitals that are already in the process of healing the most vulnerable. The devices will be purchased through www.waterislife.com/clean-water/the-straw. Because of uncertainty of shipping availabilities, we will travel with them (as additional checked luggage), then hand deliver to local hospitals in Sana’a, Yemen. The cost is $10 per straw. After contacting the company we were told if we qualify for bulk purchasing a slight reduction in cost may be offered (in that event, we will use the savings to purchase more devices). Of course we will not have that information until time of purchase. The money we raise will cover the cost of the devices themselves, as well as shipping, and any distribution charges (transportation in Yemen), and of course any charges that accrue from running the campaign through this site. Distribution of funds raised: •All funds will be collected by Diyazan Saeed. •Water filtration straws will be purchased through www.waterislife.com at $10 each. •Fees accrued by fundraising on this site. •Shipping costs will vary by airline and weight of traveling bag or bags an estimated $250 per bag. •Transportation to distribute the filtration straws once in Yemen. Covering costs for gas, car, and driver. Approximately $100 - 200 each trip. *As it stands, this is the breakdown of how funds raised will be distributed.  Anything beyond this will be updated and available for viewing if it arises.
