The Good Neighbour scheme in Burnt Oak and Mill Hill are a volunteer run charity that work to support elderly people in our local community.  Over fifty percent of people who use their services are over the age of 80. Amongst there many functions, they address the issues of fragility, loneliness and social isolation through various actvities from social events to a weekly lunch club. They also provide a befriending scheme, where volunteers visit those that are lonely or housebound and provide some much needed human contact and support, either through activities or simply tea and a listening ear.

Watling medical centre, as a local GP practice, would like to raise awareness of the issues our elderly patients' can face, in particular, social isolation and loneliness that has a huge impact  on their health and wellbeing. Thus we would like to support and fundraise for our local Good neighbour scheme charity for the amazing work they do as volunteers.

To help fundraise for this crucial local charity:

1.  Several GPs  (Dr Khanbhai, Dr Moore and Dr Shah) and our practice nurse (Andrea Callis) are running the Watford Bluebell 10k run on Monday 1st May 2017

2.  Nine children of the GP practice staff from age 2 and above,  are running  either the 3K or the 1K childrens race that is scheduled simultaneously on Monday 1st May in Watford.

3. Several GPs (Dr Saldanha, Dr Santhouse), admin and reception staff (Lynn, Razia, Sarah) and our practice manager (Ms Todorovic) will be doing a bespoke 10k fast walk on the same day.

4. Various other practice staff will be getting active in their own way or providing much needed support to their colleagues on the 1st of May

All funds collected will go entirely to our chosen charity. We hope you will support us in donating whatever you can, however small, and help make a significant difference to our local elderly population.

Yours sincerely

Dr Amit Shah
