Gold for Gunnedah
Did you know that Lane Cove’s sister city is Gunnedah?  As this drought continues to cripple NSW, Lane Cove is to stage a week of drought relief help.  Gunnedah became Lane Cove’s Sister City after the last drought when Lane Cove helped the people of Gunnedah.  Lane Cove Mayor Pam Palmer has met with the Mayor of Gunnedah and told him that Lane Cove would help out. This idea started with Lane Cove Councillor Andrew Zbik who is married to former Gunnedah resident Bronwyn Deane.

Gold for Gunnedah is a simple proposition if everyone in Lane Cove donated a $2.00 gold coin we could raise $77 564.

How Will the Money Benefit Gunnedah?
Lane Cove Rotary has been working with Rotary Gunnedah to establish a collection point. Gunnedah Rotary will disperse the money throughout their community by way of vouchers to local food stores, Bunnings and other local retailers.  Money will also be donated to  Feed A Farmer (who is working with Aussie Helpers in Gunnedah). Monies raised are to provide assistance and/or relief to Gunnedah farmers and residents impacted by the drought. Find out more here.

Who will be involved?
Every Lane Cove resident can be involved.  We already have on board local schools, churches, Lane Cove Rotary, Lane Cove Golf Club, Tambourine Bay Scouts and local dance schools and pre-schools.  Ask you local school/preschool/sportsclub to be involved.  All they need to do is appoint a co-ordiantor to collect the money and to deposit it in a bank account.

When will this happen?
In the week commencing September 2nd to September 8th.

Will Local Businesses Be Involved?
Yes, we have already been told by local businesses that they will have a collection point at their business for residents to donate during the week of drought action.

Farmer Friday at Local Schools and Child Care Centres
Schools and other education/child care are being encouraged to hold on Farmer Friday on Friday 7th September and kids can dress up as a farmer and donate $2.00.  We are also encouraging local schools to send cards of support to local Gunnedah Schools.  There will be fun things happening in the Lane Cove Plaza on Friday 7th September 2018.

How Do I get Involved?
If your community group, business, school or child care want to be involved just email In the Cove to register.  In the Cove will be co-ordinating the week of action.  When you register, we will provide details of where to bank the money raised.

Go Fund Me Page
In addition, a Go Fund Me page will be set up so online donations are possible.

The Week Finishes with an Afternoon Tea for Drought Relief
Afternoon Tea for Drought Relief –  Finishing off the week will be the Afternoon Tea for Drought Relief – all money going to Drought Angels (which helps out all farmers everywhere).  Drought Angels are sending one of their founders to this event to speak about their work and how the drought is impacting rural Australia.  Please book NOW so that catering requirements can be ascertained.
